SGPC Blasts Indian Government for Rising COVID-19 Cases, Seeks Permission to Transport Pfizer Vaccine For Use in Punjab

In a press statement today, SGPC President Bibi Jagir “Kaur” today blasted the Indian Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the rise of COVID-19 in India. She appreciated the service by doctors, nurses and other frontline workers but said that the Indian Government could have done more to ensure such mass casualties.

Bibi Jagir told held the press conference to express concern over the rising COVID-19 cases in Punjab. She said that the SGPC is now operating two COVID care centres, providing fresh oxygen and other necessities to patients suffering from coronavirus.

SGPC had earlier opened its first COVID-19 care centre at Gurdwara Shri Alamgir Sahib, but seeing growing cases intensified its efforts to provide COVID-19 relief Talwandi Sabo as well.

“COVID-19 is a severe illness, and while doctors, nurses and other staff on the frontlines are playing a very prominent role in attending to those in need, our Government has failed miserably in performing its job.”

“The Narendra Modi left BJP government has raised its hands, implying that they have no means to bring the country out of this turmoil,” Bibi Jagir said. “We have emailed the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister to provide us permission to transport doses of the Pfizer vaccine to be used within Punjab at SGPC operated institutes,” she added.

She said the Sikh diaspora is playing a major role in providing relief in Punjab and across Punjab. She said that the SGPC today also received a major consignment of oxygen concentrators on the behest of a Sikh philanthropist.
