550th Birthday Celebrations: Punjab government and SGPC decide to collaboratively organize celebratory programs

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—On June 29, a Punjab government’s delegation comprising cabinet ministers Charanjeet Singh Channi, OP Soni and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa underwent a meeting with the SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh and SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal at SGPC’s office in Amritsar Sahib to join hands for jointly celebrating the 550th birthday of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

It is learnt that the Punjab government’s delegation and SGPC gave consent for jointly organize the celebration programs under the patronage of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Sharing the development with media, Giani Harpreet Singh highly hailed the Punjab government’s move of sidelining differences for making the celebration programs of the 550th birth anniversary memorable. “It has been decided that all the programs within the premises of Sikh shrines will be organized by the SGPC while the Punjab government will take care of arrangements to be made for organizing celebratory programs outside the shrines,” he informed.

Tourism and Culture Affairs Minister Charanjeet Singh Channi informed that he deliberated upon making arrangements for the transportation and accommodation for devotees, entrance of the main event, pandal and stage, besides exhibitions alongside functions. “The Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh will himself thoroughly discuss upon other factors in the next meetings,” he added.  

SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal has said that the SGPC would abide by the orders of supreme Sikh throne Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

All the ministers and other personalities who attended this meeting were felicitated with ‘Siropaos’ by the Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh.
