Rapist Gurmeet Ram Rahim Demands Parole for Farming Work

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The Sirsa cult chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim has demanded parole from the Sunaria jail authorities for farming work. It is learnt that the Superintendent of Sunaria Jail (Rohtak) has written a letter to the Sirsa DC seeking his opinion in the form of a report on granting parole to Gurmeet Ram Rahim. He has been asked to forward the report to the Rohtak Commissioner.

The letter states that Gurmeet Ram Rahim is serving life sentence for raping his two female disciples and his conduct remained fine in jail. In addition, the letter also states that he has a right to get parole.

In this letter, the Jail authorities have also elaborated the life sentence granted to Gurmeet Ram Rahim by a CBI court in the murder case of journalist Ram Chandar Chhatrapati.

Now the district administration has to give an opinion on granting parole to the rapist Gurmeet Ram Rahim. The administration will have to decide whether or not to recommend the parole for him.

However, it is unlikely that the district administration will recommend parole for Gurmeet Ram Rahim as it will not be easy to maintain the law and order if he comes out of the jail.

Also the district administration will have to think that who will send Gurmeet Ram Rahim back to jail after the parole period ends.

Meanwhile, the Sirsa DC Ashok Kumar Garg has clarified that he has received a letter in which the Jail authorities have sought district administration’s opinion on granting parole to Sirsa cult chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim. He has said that an action will be taken in this concern as per rules.
