SC Approves Transfer of Arrested Sikh Youths to Delhi; Damdami Taksal Seeks Review Petition

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—On May 7, the Supreme Court bench of judges Arun Mishra and Navin Sinha made the Sikhs feel as third class citizens by pronouncing biased verdict against Jaggi Johal, Ramandip Singh Bagga, Hardeep Singh Shera and his teammates in 30 seconds.

It is noteworthy here that the cases against these Sikh youths are already under trial in Mohali Court and the NIA’s first appeal to transfer the proceedings of these cases to Delhi was rejected by the Mohali court, following which the NIA has knocked the doors of the Supreme Court and pressurized it to transfer the case to Delhi.

During the Court hearing, the NIA told the court that the lives these Sikh youths are in danger in the jails of Punjab and they are running the Khalistan movement from inside the jail and they can run from jail anytime, so they should be shifted to Delhi and the cases against them should be run in Delhi’s NIA court.

On this, defense lawyer Colin Gonsalwes said that there is no evidence in the facts presented by the NIA, but the Judge refused to listen to them and pronounced a biased verdict.

Interacting with the media, Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur said that these judges represent the RSS in Supreme Court and when they were told that 5 out of 7 people related to the RSS have been killed in this case then the Court immediately ordered to transfer their case. However, the NIA had only got 500 papers of 1,500 papers of this case.

He said that senior advocate told the Judge that these are all youths and they have no previous cases and their parents are old aged but the Judge did not listen.

Meanwhile, the Damdami Taksal has strongly condemned the Supreme Court’s decision of allowing the transfer of arrested Sikh youths to Delhi.

Damdami Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma has termed the move as a violation of the basic rights of arrested Sikh youths. Asking the apex Sikh body SGPC to show interest in this case, Baba Dhumma has said that a review petition ought to be filed in the Supreme Court so that the transfer of these Sikh youths could be averted.
