413th Martyrdom Anniversary: Pakistan Likely to Reject Visa Applications Endorsed by SGPC

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The prevailing controversy over amendment in basic Nanakshahi calendar is once again going to hurt Sikh sentiments as the apex Sikh body SGPC is likely to cancel the pilgrimage of around 600 Sikh pilgrims aspirant of marking the 413th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Pakistan.

Sources have informed that the SGPC has sought 10 day visas (from May 30 to June 8) for about 600 Sikh pilgrims from the Pakistani High Commission as it will mark the 413th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji on June 7 i.e. in accordance with the amended Nanakshahi calendar.

However, the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee is adamant on marking the martyrdom anniversary on June 16 i.e. as per basic Nanakshahi calendar.

So, the SGPC endorsed visa applications of around 600 Sikh devotees are likely to get rejected by the Pakistani High Commission due to difference in martyrdom anniversary dates.
