NEW DELHI, India—Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi was inducted into BJP by the Union Minister Vijay Goel on April 26 amid the presence of BJP leaders Manoj Tiwari, Dr. Harshvardhan, singer Hans Raj Hans. Notably, the BJP has already nominated two Punjab based celebrities Hans Raj Hans and Sunny Deol from the parliamentary seats of North West Delhi and Gurdaspur respectively.
Earlier, Daler Mehndi had joined Congress in 2013 with an eye on the assembly elections of Delhi held in 2014. He had also composed and sung a campaign song for the party.
Daler Mehndi was convicted for two years by the Court for committing immigration related frauds. However, he was later released on bail.
