SGPC Criticizes Incident of Blocking Sikh Lawyer from Entering Into Supreme Court

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal has strongly criticized the incident of blocking an Amritdhari Sikh from entering into the Supreme Court of India on February 6. Notably, a Sikh lawyer Amritpal Singh Khalsa was barred from entering into the Court room by the security cops deployed in the Supreme Court of India.

Longowal has termed the incident as a gross violation of the fundamental right of religious liberty. He has said that the Sikhs, who made more than 90% contribution in the liberty of India, are being treated as a third class citizen in India.

“If the Sikhs can’t enjoy religious liberty inside the apex temple of Indian judiciary then how could they expect the same in the rest of India” Longowal said while making it clear that the Sikh community won’t tolerate any attack on its liberty to exercise religious faith.

Longowal further said that Kirpan is a symbol of Sikh faith and it is mandatory for every baptized Sikh to wear Kirpan. “I request the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi to take strict action against the security cops who denied entry to Amritpal Singh Khalsa so that no one could dare in future to do such an inflammatory act” he said.
