Martyrdom Festival Begins at Fatehgarh Sahib; Hundreds of Thousands Pay Obeisance on the First Day

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The 314th martyrdom festival, commemorated to the martyrdom of two younger Sahibzaades of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, started in Fatehgarh Sahib with the laying of Sri Akhand Path Sahib at Gurdwara Jyoti Saroop Sahib on December 26. A large influx of Sikh devotees from all around the world was noticed with the beginning of this three day martyrdom festival. More than a million devotees are expected to pay obeisance.

On the first day of this martyrdom festival, the SGPC organized gatka, painting, essay writing and kavishri competition in various SGPC colleges.

It is learnt that the local administration has made robust arrangements for the facility of Sikh devotees. Power supply, clean drinking water, toilet and medical facilities would be provided round the clock to the pilgrims. Liquor shops, gambling stalls, dance pandals, circuses, swings and other sources of entertainment had been banned.

Beside it, the local administration has set up 21 parking sites for the incoming Sikh devotees and CCTV cameras have also been installed to keep surveillance over various spots of the town.
