The Sheikhs and Pirs (the Islamic scholars and spiritual leaders) weep, lest, in the end, they suffer in agony. -Guru Nanak Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 954

Message: Even the religious adherents or people who are knowledgeable and hold positions of respect and honour cry for one or the other reason. They are also afraid of suffering. The fear of death is very powerful. It causes both the seekers and seers to grieve.

Some powerful preachers do not practise what they preach and fear that they will suffer in the hereafter. Only a firm faith in the Divine will and a sense of protection of the Fearless One (the Divine) can save us from fear and suffering.

Etymology: From Arabic mashaaikh, the plural of shaikh (Sheikh or Shaikh, an honorific title in the Arabic language for elderly Muslims or Islamic scholars).
