Navjot Sidhu Seeks Excommunication of Parkash Badal and Sukhbir Badal

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Local Bodies Minister of Punjab, has sought excommunication of SAD patron Parkash Badal and president Sukhbir Badal from the Sikh community. He submitted a four page letter addressed to the Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh on September 14 seeking excommunication of Badals for their for their role in ordering gunfire on Sikh protesters in 2015 and misusing the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs for their vested political interests.

In the absence of Giani Gurbachan Singh at Akal Takht Secretariat, the letter was received from Navjot Sidhu by an SGPC employee. It is learnt that the State Congress Chief Sunil Jakhar was also accompanying Sidhu on this occasion.

It is learnt that Navjot Sidhu has highlighted the Sukhbir Badal’s collusion with Sirsa cult chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in the letter. He has raked up the issue of violating the 2007’s Akal Takht edict against Gurmeet Ram Rahim by Sukhbir Badal.

Interacting with media after submitting letter at Akal Takht Secretariat, Navjot Sidhu said that he approached Sri Akal Takht Sahib on the behalf of Sikh community who fell victim to the misdeeds committed by Badals during their tenure in the Punjab government.  “I have urged the Akal Takht Jathedar to pronounce exemplary punishment of excommunication to the father-son duo in the interests of the Panth,” he added.

PPCC chief Sunil Kumar Jakhar said that Navjot Sidhu will follow up the case for ensuring religious punishment to Badals while the Congress would take legal recourse.
