Punishment Addressed to Bhunder for Calling Parkash Badal as “Badshah – Darvesh”

BATHINDA, Punjab—Accepting the “summon” issued by the SGPC appointed Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh, the Akali parliamentarian Balwinder Singh Bhunder appeared before the “Punj Piares” at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib on September 12. Notably, Bhunder had addressed the SAD patron Parkash Badal as “Badshah – Darvesh” at Abohar rally on September 9.

It is learnt that Balwinder Singh Bhunder apologized for his mistake before the “Punj Piares” following which he was addressed religious punishment.

As per sources, Bhunder has been asked to perform “sewa” for an hour at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib daily for three days in “langar” and shoe house beside listening “Kirtan”. After completing the specified punishment third days, he will offer ‘Deg’ of ‘Karah Prasad’ worth Rupees 1100/- and will 11 times recite the ‘Path’ of Japji Sahib.

It is pertinent to note here that a former member of SAD’s working committee named S. Gursewak Singh Harpalpur had even lodged complaint against Bhunder in Sohana police station of Mohali. Seeking registration of an FIR against Bhunder, Harpalpur had said in the complaint that Bhunder hurt Sikh sentiments by terming Badal as “Badshah – Darvesh”.

Bhai Nand Lal Ji, who was supreme among the 52 poets that made their home in the entourage of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, saw Guru Sahib as both Patshah (from Badshah meaning King Emperor) and Darvesh (Prophet) due to which he addressed Guru Sahib with Badshah – Darvesh title in his poetry.
