Langah Seeks Re-Induction into Sikh Community

CHANDIGARH—After getting acquitted by the Court in a rape case on July 30, the former Akali minister Sucha Langah has appealed the SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh to review the edict ordering his excommunication and re-induct him into the Sikh community. Notably, Langah was excommunicated by the SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh on October 5 after a video of him having sex with a woman had gone viral over the social media.

Langah was indicted under rape charges on September 28 last year when a woman employee of the Vigilance Department had filed a complaint with the then SSP Harcharan Singh Bhullar claiming that she was repeatedly raped by the Akali leader. To strengthen her claims, she had also handed over a video clip to the SSP. Later, the woman had withdrawn accusations against Langah on February 28 this year, which paved way for his release and acquittal.

Meanwhile, Giani Gurbachan Singh has confirmed that Langah has sought apology by writing a letter to him and has indicated of deliberating upon it during the next meeting of five high priests.

It is pertinent to note here that Langah’s re-induction into the Sikh community will further denigrate the image of Shiromani Akali Dal among Sikh masses because Langah might have succeeded in securing his acquittal from the rape charges but he couldn’t ever succeed in hiding his dirty character.
