Referendum 2020 – A Fruitless Exercise, claims Captain Amarinder Singh

CHANDIGARH—Terming the ongoing campaign for the proposed Referendum 2020 as a fruitless exercise, the Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh has said that the recent rally by the Sikhs for Justice at London has exposed the lack of mass support to Referendum 2020. He has claimed that the Referendum 2020 campaign was focused on creating turbulence in India and it has nothing to do with the Punjab masses.    

Terming the SFJ as a sham organization, Captain has claimed that the Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) are just a group of ‘fringe’ elements that are playing into the hands of Pakistan’s ISI to divide India, but they have failed, and will continue to fail in their nefarious designs. He has said that the presence of Pakistani politicians at the rally confirms that it was out and out an ISI plot, which fell through, just as their attempts to create trouble in India have been failing all these years.

Captain has further claimed that the entire referendum business is nothing but a money making racket of SFJ, with no takers for the so-called campaign either in India, or even outside, as is evident from the poor show at the rally.

Captain Amarinder Singh has also claimed that some Kashmiris were made wear turbans to appear like Sikhs at the London rally.

Describing the SFJ’s activists as mere social media tigers, who are trying to create hype even when they have no support, both in India and abroad, the Chief Minister of Punjab said the Sikhs were a ‘patriotic’ community who have always stood for the unity and integrity of the country. As many as 90,000 Sikhs are serving in the Indian army, defending the country’s borders, he pointed out, adding that SFJ could never succeed in ‘misleading’ the community into falling for their selfish designs.

Meanwhile, Captain has threatened the Sikh activists of dealing them with an iron hand, if they would ever try to disturb the ‘peace’ and ‘harmony’ of Punjab.
