Kejriwal writes to Election Commission seeking withdrawal of security cover

CHANDIGARH—Aam Aadmi Party’s National Convener and Chief minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, has urged the Election Commission to withdraw security cover of Punjab police deployed for him during his visits to Punjab. He has said that the Punjab police cops should be deployed for common masses in Punjab to robust law & order condition in Punjab.

In a letter addressed to Chief Electoral Officer Mr. V.K Singh, Kejriwal stated that AAP’s stance was clear about usage of State government’s security apparatus only for the safety and security of Punjab. He said that he doesn’t require any security in Punjab during his visits.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that all the AAP candidates in Punjab have also asked the Administration to withdraw their security cover. Upkar Singh Sandhu, who is AAP’s nominee for by-poll on Amritsar parliamentary seat, has also written to the Administration for withdrawal of security.

Taking a dig on Arvind Kejriwal, spokesperson of ruling Shiromani Akali Dal Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema has said that Kejriwal was playing dirty politics in wake of assembly polls due on February 4. He has said that before imposition of poll code Kejriwal had demanded special security cover from Punjab government due to which his security was enhanced at the behest of SAD led Punjab government.

A spokesperson of the Chief Electoral Officer has informed that the letter of the AAP supremo was forwarded to the DGP Suresh Arora of Punjab police for appropriate action.

Due to its security cover, AAP leaders are often not able to spend time with common masses.  However, at the same time, if security cover of AAP leaders is revoked, Akali leaders might also have to give up their special privileges.  Akalis are already facing a tough time in Punjab as many of their leaders have had to face rotten tomatoes, eggs and stones during their visits of Punjab’s villages.

  1. I think you RK is either deluded or living in some cuckoo land – Punjab Police bringing harmony —- they are the criminal gangster employed your badal friend – please wake up and realise what Badals have done in Punjab no one is safe from the police dogs they pick up who they like particularly if you are guilty of wearing Kakkars given to us by our Guru Ji.

  2. Police always welcome in Punjab to create the harmony and stop criminal elements. Sikhs must stop uncivilized acts including throwing of stones threatening injuries and property destruction. Already Sikhs have incited police response then complained of heavy handedness by police.

    • How have Sikhs ‘incited police response then complained of heavy handedness of police’? I hope you are not referring to the cold blood murder of two SIkhs for peacefully protesting beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib which even the investigating Justice Katju found were doing nothing but exercising their democratic right to protest when police opened fire without justification. An Indian Judge established that fact. As for uncivilised acts let us look at what former Maharastra Inspector General of Police S M Mushrif said when he termed the BJP’s ideological mentor RSS as India’s top terrorist organisation in November 2015. He claims that RSS activists have been indicted in at least 13 terror cases across India. “RSS activists have been charge sheeted in at least 13 cases of terror acts in which RDX explosives has been used. IF organisations like Bajrang Dal are taken into account then the number of such cases goes up to 17””, said Mushrif.“The RSS is India’s number one terrorist organisation, there is no doubt on this” said Mushrif, referring to the 2007 Mecca Masjid bombing in Hyderabad, the 2006 and 2008 Malegaon blasts in Maharashtra and the 2007 Samjhauta Express bombings among others. “The RSS as a terror organisation has nothing to do with political power. IT is immaterial which party is in power. It is the system that is working, it’s the Brahmanical system. And when I say Brahmanical, it doesn’t mean the Brahmin, it’s the mentality, the attitude to dominate and oppress” he said.
