Gurbani Word Of The Day: sasaa

(sasaa)
Meaning: noun: The fourth letter of the Gurmukhi alphabet, corresponding to the sound of ‘s’ in ‘sun’ in English.
It is repeated seven times in the quote of the day.

Quote:
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੋਹਹਿ   ਸੋਭਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ॥
jo har sevahi se sadaa sohahi   sobhaa surat suhaavaṇiaa.
Those who serve the Divine always look beautiful; such pleasant and conscious people are praised everywhere. – Guru Amar Das, Guru Granth Sahib, 122

Message: The repeated use of the alphabet ‘sasaa’ in the quote above – signify that an important message is being conveyed beyond the simple meaning of individual words. In this context, the message relates to what we gain in service to the Divine. The quote emphasizes that those who serve the Divine have an inner beauty and are praiseworthy. Through dutifully serving the Divine, they are worthy of honour and grandeur as they possess knowledge and intelligence beyond normal measure.

Inner beauty stems from having attained peace of mind. The divine spark within, is our source of peace. The wisdom from Gurbani keeps explaining this to us. We are told to attune our minds to this wisdom, to surrender through devotion to the Divine.  As we devotedly serve Him, we are able to attain peace of mind too. We too can be beautiful when we stop fighting our battles; with pleasure, pain and emotional attachment and allow these to melt away.

By serving the giver of peace, we find peace. By enshrining the wisdom of Gurbani within our mind, we become intuitive. Through divine grace, we become spiritually conscious and are seen as praiseworthy.
