HSGPC to challenge SGPC’s general meeting in Supreme Court

2014-09-23_supreme_courtCHANDIGARH, Punjab—In a press note shared with Sikh24 on October 31, General Secretary of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee S. Joga Singh stated that the HSGPC will challenge the general meeting of the SGPC called on November 5.

“A petition against the general meeting called at the directions of Union Ministry of Home Affairs will be moved in Supreme Court on November 3 by HSGPC,” reads the press note.

S. Joga Singh stated that the petition will be moved in the Supreme Court on the ground that the tenure of SGPC members elected in 2011 was going to complete in December this year.

It may be recalled here that the first meeting of general house of SGPC is scheduled to be held on November 5 in which President, General Secretary and other office bearers of the SGPC will be elected.

Talking about the petition challenging the constitution of a separate Haryana Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee moved by Kurukshetra based SGPC member S. Harbhajan Singh, S. Joga Singh informed that the Supreme Court has deferred the next date of hearing onto November 22. Notably, the Haryana Government led by Bhupinder Singh Huda had constituted a separate 41 member Ad-hoc Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee to manage the Sikh shrines in Haryana.
