LONDON, UK—Representatives of UK Sikh organizations have taken Bhai Paramjit Singh Pamma’s case to the United Nations.  The Sikh Federation UK and Movement Against Atrocities and Repression from Switzerland held a with the High Commissioner’s office in Geneva, explaining possible torture and threat of elimination if Bhai Pamma is deported to India.

Bhai Paramjit Singh Pamma is a resident of the UK, he was granted asylum in 2000 on grounds that if he returns to India, he will face severe consequences to his life.  Sikh Federation UK has alleged that if Bhai Pamma is extradited to India, both UK and Portugal will be in violation of the European Convention on Human Rights.

It is notable that over 200 UK MPs have openly opposed the detention of Bhai Paramjit Singh Pamma in Portugal by the Interpol. The MPs have asked the Foreign Ministry of UK to pressurize Portugal to send Bhai Pamma back to the UK.

The hearing on the extradition case of Bhai Paramjit Singh Pamma is to be held on January 26. The hearing was deferred during the previous hearing to provide India time to produce evidence against Bhai Pamma.
