CHANDIGARH, Punjab—In wake of 350th foundation day of Anandpur Sahib, Punjab government has resolved to install 70 feet tall ‘Khanda’ to be made of stainless steel in the holy city as a symbol of the glorious legacy and heritage of the city.
The installation was approved on Saturday in a high level meeting of the government functionaries and official held at Punjab Bhawan here. The meeting was presided over by Punjab chief minister Parkash Badal. In addition, the arrangements to commemorate the celebrations at the holy city of Sri Ananpur Sahib from June 17-19 were finalized in the meeting.
As per press release issued by Public relation department of Punjab, the Chief Minister said in the meeting that its installation would be homage to the great ideology of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji, who founded ‘Khalsa Panth’ in 1699 at the holy city. “Khanda’ represents the eternal spirit of universal brotherhood, courage and valour against the tyranny, oppression and injustice’, he said.
Badal also gave his approval to the Gold plated commemorative coin to be issued on the historic occasion. He also directed the Executive Committee to prepare a pamphlet describing the brief history of Sri Anandpur Sahib to make the people aware of its glorious past and rich legacy. The ongoing activities related to the commemoration of this event were also reviewed. Various government functionaries emphasized to ensure participation of the people from different walks of life in India and abroad.
A special committee was also set up in order to oversee the arrangements meticulously. The committee comprising Cabinet Ministers Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema, Madan Mohan Mittal, MP Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra, Punjabi University V-C Dr. Jaspal Singh, Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. KJS Cheema, Deputy Commissioner Ropar Ms. Tanu Kashyap, SGPC Secretary Roop Singh and SGPC Member Amarjeet Singh Chawla.
