Sikh24’s Exclusive Interview with Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa During Hunger Strike to Free Sikh Prisoners

Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa

Q: Bapu Ji, who is your inspiration to walk this path?  It must be difficult at this old age to remain in hunger for over 20 days.

A: Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindrawale used to say, “Physical death I don’t fear, death of conscience is sure death”. Today we have forgotten our duties, we have forgotten our ardas for “Sarbat da bhala”.  I am not doing anything, but requesting Guru Sahib to allow me to fulfill the ardas performed to him for permanent release of Sikh prisoners.

Q: How long do you plan to continue the hunger strike?

A: I am firm on my path and will continue the hunger strike until  the permanent release of Sikh detainees.  There are a number of Sikhs who have completed their jail terms, why are they not being released?

Q: Doctors are advising you to start taking glucose and other medical treatment.  They say your health is deteriorating fast.

A: I will not take any type of medical medical treatment until Singhs are released.  As soon as my body will start to get weak, my spirituality will start shining.

Q: Aside from the plight of Sikh political prisoners, what are your views about the treatment of Sikhs and other minorities in India?

A: Sikhs are slaves in India and to come out of this slavery, the Sikh nation would have to struggle.  Leaders today are the enemy of minorities and the Government it is quite clever in political dealings.
