NEW DELHI, India—Sirsa based controversial cult named “Dera Sacha Sauda” led by Gurmeet Ram Rahim has extended its open support to BJP in the upcoming Delhi elections. The chairman of the political affairs wing of the cult, Ram Insan today told media that the cult followers would support BJP candidates in the elections.
On being asked as to whether the support would be also for Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidates, he replied in the affirmative.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim, a self styled godman, has been in news recently over his controversial film, ‘Messenger of God’ (MSG), which had been controversially cleared for screening by a Tribunal, prompting members of the Censor Board to resign in protest. The film has been banned in Punjab, where the BJP is part of the government led by its ally, (SAD).
The cult head has also been on radar of Sikh organizations due his anti-Sikh activities and blasphemies.
As far the impact of his support to BJP, it is expected to be worthless as there is no sizable followers in Delhi. The show of support however clarifies that Sacha Sauda has established better connections with BJP and Akali Dal in past years. This is especially helpful for the cult since it faces tough challenges from the people in Punjab.
