MUKATSAR, Punjab—A young lineman named Hitesh Kumar set ablaze to himself in front of political conference organized by SAD during historical Maghi fair observed in memory of 40 “Mukte”. Although nearby people saved him, he sustained serious burns and was admitted in Hospital.
This is the second incident in which protestors have tried to gain attention by ablazing themselves. Prior to this, a Sikh woman burnt herself outside official residence of Parkash Badal. She was protesting against rise of umemployment in the state.
These incidents expose the anarchical environment that has prevailed in Punjab with deep fiscal mess. Youth find no way but to commit suicide to expose the ruling Government.
