Radha Swami Cult Takes Thousands of Acres of Land Under Its Possession Forcibly

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—A social organization named ‘Lok Bhalai Insaaf Welfare Society’ (LBWS) has sent a memorandum to Punjab governor seeking a CBI probe into the case of illegal possession and mining done by the ‘Radha Swami’ cult based in Beas of Amritsar district.

It is pertinent to mention that the Radha Swami cult has possessed thousands of acres of land of 22 villages situated in the belt of river Beas illegally. It has also gone for illegal mining in the belt.

The memorandum was submitted by a large number of victim farmer families belonging to Amritsar and Kapurhthala districts led by LBWS leaders Baldev Singh Sirsa, Ajit Singh, Makhan Singh, Sarwan Singh, Rajchanan Singh to Amritsar deputy commissioner Ravi Bhagat.

Explaining the matter, Baldev Singh Sirsa said violating the Indian and International laws, the managing committee of the cult is doing mining of sand in the belt of the Beas river and by building a very long bridge, the natural flow of the river has been changed by them.

He said that the land possessed by the cult included land of Panchayats, Gurdwaras and farmers, and they paid no compensation for that. He said evidence of preparing fake registration papers have also been found which were handed over to finance commissioner (revenue) on October 7, 2014 and November 22, 2014.

Victim families also told DC that officials of revenue, drainage and mining departments are involved in preparing fake registration papers and practice of illegal mining.

In view of seriousness of the case, the social activists and victims have demanded the CBI probe into the matter.
