TARN TARAN, Punjab—The Taran Taaran Police have reportedly booked ten followers of Noormehal-based cult ‘Divya Jyoti Jagarti Sansthan’ on charges of burning a Saroop of Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj. This act of religious sacrilege on 1 December 2014 in village Jodhpur had occurred in the same locality where only a few weeks earlier unarmed peacefully protesting Sikhs were fired upon during a clash with the followers of the “freezer Guru” Ashutosh.

Panthik Parcharak Baba Ranjit Singh Khalsa Dhadrianwale has strenuously condemned the recent burning of Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj as a despicable act of murder and a challenge to the Sikh nation by vile miscreants.

This incident, yet again hurting the hearts of millions of Sikhs worldwide, coincides with the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s order directing the administration to cremate the dead body of ‘God-man’ Ashutosh. The body has been kept in a freezer since 29 January 2014 due to Dera Noormehal management claiming their ‘God-man’ was in “meditation”.

Baba Ranjit Singh Khalsa, who themselves were at Diwaans at the time, had instructed local Singh’s to immediately visit the scene in order to obtain information and demonstrate unity. It is believed that a family had taken a Saroop of Guru Granth Sahib Ji to their home for the reading of Sukhmani Sahib and it was at approximately 2pm when returning to the Gurdwara Sahib to bring Guru Sahib back to their throne that the burnt Saroop of Guru Sahib Ji was discovered. The smell of fuel immediately confirmed the burning was intentional and not by accident.

Jathedar of Parmeshar Dwar’s Panj Pyare Bhai Nirvair Singh, along with 15-20 Singh’s of the Jatha and large numbers of local Sangat from Patiala will be attending the Akhand Paath Bhog ceremony in Taran Taaran on 4 December 2014.

Baba Ranjit Singh Khalsa has said, “It is the duty of the nation to always unite together when such incidents take place in order to ensure those behind these acts are conscious that Sikhs are awake and not sleeping”.

“If such Beadbi happens and the people of Punjab ignore it, then these miscreants will think they can pick up Guru Sahib Ji from any location and do as they please.”

“Their own dead ‘freezer Guru’ has been in a fridge for months and those allegedly responsible have not yet burnt his corpse, but they have the nerve to do Beadbi of the eternal Guru Granth Sahib Ji? We ourselves must awaken our conscience about such incidents and the policies behind their cause, we must then create awareness on the ground-level starting with our friends and families, only then will this awakening slowly spread within Punjab in order to put a pro-active stop to such incidents in the future”.

They have advised that all those who cannot go to that area of Punjab should create awareness by circulating the facts to friends and family in Taran Taaran, advising them to go to Jodhpur and show unity in order to ensure the authorities are put under pressure to locate, arrest and punish the murderers.

It is apparent that even if the people of fifteen villages gather together in one location to peacefully show their affection for Guru Granth Sahib Ji when such incidents happen, inevitably the authorities will be forced to take hard-action against the perpetrators when controlling such large crowds upwards of 10,000 becomes difficult.

Taran Taaran SSP Manmohan Kumar Sharma said that on the complaint of Ajit Singh of Jodhpur village,  the Police have registered a case against the ten people under section 452, 295-A, 436, 427 of the IPC, while no arrest has been made so far. All the accused are still at-large while the situation in Jodhpur remains tense with a heavy police presence. The Police are reportedly conducting raids for their possible hideouts, whilst Sikhs worldwide will closely watch the outcome of any arrests made in due course.
