Just few days ago on June 6, he had arrived at Sri Akal Takht Sahib along with large number of Sikh Sangat and took Amrit there.  His demise has caused great loss to Sikh Panth as he was a top leader of marginalized section of Sikh community.  He was fond of Sikh principals and has died as a “Guru Wala”.

Lakha, an associate of BSP founder Kanshi Ram, represented the Phillaur constituency from 1989 to 1996. Prior to that, he had contested the Nawanshahr Assembly seat (in 1985) and secured 17,000 votes. He was later made General Secretary of Punjab.

After the party’s “non-performance” in the 2002 Assembly poll, Lakha, Darshal Lal Jethumajara, Lal Singh Salhani and Major Pritpal Singh were expelled from the party by BSP chief Mayawati.
