Giani Jagtar Singh and Giani Mal Singh Assume New Roles at Sikh Shrines

AMRITSAR SAHIB—Giani Jagtar Singh has officially taken over the position of Head Granthi Sri Harmandir Sahib from Giani Mal Singh.  After Giani Mal Singh was relocated to Sri Anandpur Sahib, Giani Jagtar Singh was the obvious choice of the SGPC as the Head Granthi at Sri Harmandir Sahib.

In a ceremonial way, Giani Mal Singh handed over “Chaur Sahib” to Giani Jagtar Singh after ardas was performed by Bhai Kulwinder Singh.  Giani Gurbachan Singh bestowed siropao to Giani Jagtar Singh in presence of Guru Granth Sahib at Sri Harmandir Sahib.

Giani Mal Singh on the other hand has assumed seva as the Jathedar of Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib, Anandpur Sahib.  Before being appointed as the Jathedar at Keshgarh Sahib, Giani Mal Singh was doing seva at Sri Harmandir Sahib, Amristar, as the Head Granthi.  Giani Mal Singh was officially installed as the Jathedar yesterday amidst great fervour.

The appointment has come after the demise of Giani Tarlochan Singh who died of cardiac arrest.  The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee had few people to choose from and Giani Mal Singh was its preference due to his record of doing seva for the Sikh Nation.

Appointment of Giani Mal Singh was accepted by roar of Jakaras.  He was given siropaos by various eminent personalities, including Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh, Giani Iqbal Singh and Giani Partap Singh (associate Jathedar Hazoor Sahib).  Other personalities that were present at the function included Baba Nihal Singh (Tarna Dal Hariyan Velan), Avtar Makkar, Sukhbir Badal, Sukhdev Singh Bhaur, Manjit Singh GK, Baba Harnaam Singh Dhumma, Baba Balbir Singh (Buddha Dal), Baba Labh Singh and Baba Lakha Singh (Nanaksar), and Maan Singh Pehowa.
