Letter to the Editor – Desperate Attempts to Showcase Bravery

I was reading the news and saw that a LeT militant named Abdul Karim Tunda was slapped by a right wing [terrorist] in India.  The incident reminded me of similar attempt to humiliate Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara however we know this incident fired back on the attackers.

It seems that members of fanatic Shiv Sena type organisations are trying to pull desperate attempts to showcase their courage in front of mainstream Indian media.  I can say without a doubt that the police is responsible for allowing such attacks to take place.  They should provide strong security for political prisoners so such attacks are not possible.

Although I do not support any operations of LeT, I am shocked at how a 70 year old person would be attacked in such a manner.  At first I thought some news agency misspelled Dhunda (as in Sarbjeet Singh Dhunda) as Tunda however it turned out they were referring to  Abdul Karim Tunda.

Also, Indian courts have been trying for a long time to force political prisoners to have court hearings through closed circuit cameras.  It is likely such incidents are being organised with due knowledge of the police and GOI.  It will be a shame if prisoners are denied proper court hearings for an excuse to CCTV hearings.
