SGPC Announces Plan for ‘One Village, One Crematorium’ Campaign

SANGRUR, Punjab—Speaking with Sikh24 earlier today, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal said that the ‘One Village, One Gurdwara’ campaign begun by SGPC is receiving robust response from Punjab masses.

A campaign named ‘One Village, One Gurdwara’ was launched by the SGPC in February 28, 2018, to ensure existence of a single centralized Gurdwara Sahib in each village of Punjab. The initiative came into being over rising count of caste based Gurdwara Sahib in villages across Punjab.

SGPC President Longowal informed Sikh24 that under this campaign, Sikh masses of one village adopted the Gurdwara Sahib constructed by schedule class and closed other four other Gurdwaras.

Longowal further informed that the SGPC is planning to launch another campaign named ‘One Village, One Crematorium’ to prosper affection among Sikhs irrespective of their caste. He added that there is no room for caste based discrimination in the Sikh community.

“People hungry of name and fame establish new Gurdwara Sahib in villages to use it as their personal property. Sikhi was plaintiff of treating every human equally irrespective of caste, creed and colour but these villagers of Punjab have violated the Sikh tenets by naming Gurdwara as per caste names,” SGPC President Longowal had told Sikh24 at the launch of the campaign in February.
