Peshawar Sikhs to Celebrate Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Parkash Purab on December 25

PESHAWAR, Pakistan—Contrary to the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee’s decision to celebrate Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s parkash purab on January 5, the Sikh sangat of Peshawar has announced to celebrate the occasion on December 25 instead.

Due to difference in opinion over the dates, supporters of the Pal Singh Purewal calendar are celebrating Guru Sahib’s gurpurab on January 5, 2018 while the followers of amended Nanakshahi calendar imposed by SGPC are celebrating it on December 25.

Sharing the development with Sikh24, Peshawar based Baba Gurpal Singh informed that the Sikh sangat of Peshawar has been celebrating all the Gurpurabs as per directions of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and this time also, the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji will be celebrated at Gurdwara Bhai Joga Singh on December 25.

“We are expecting Sikhs from all over Pakistan to take part in the celebrations.  This Gurpurab brings Sikhs together in Peshawar ever year,” Baba Gurpal Singh told Sikh24.

He also appealed the Sikh masses to celebrate Guru Sahib’s birthday as per reference available in the Sikh scriptures i.e. seventh day after the moonless day in the month of Poh.
