In an unprecedented move on July 7, veteran Sikh leader Wassan Singh Zaffarwal came up in support of the excommunicated Akali leader Sucha Langah while asking the SGPC appointed acting Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh to pardon him.
In 2019, Akali leader Sucha Langah was excommunicated from the Sikh community after his video of being very intimate with a widow came to the public domain. At that time, the concerned lady had accused Langah of blackmailing her while levelling charges of rape against him.
Later, she had revoked her statement against Langah after which he was released from jail.
Raising questions over Giani Harpreet Singh’s continuous ignorance towards Langah’s apology pleas, Zaffarwal has said that Langah and his old aged have been continuously approaching the Akal Takht Jathedar to seek pardon but their request is not being considered.
Zaffarwal further said that the issue of Langah was not political instead it is a religious issue.
He further claimed that every Sikh has a right to seek apology by confessing his mistake verbally before the Punj Piares and in written to the Akal Takht Jathedar.
“It is Giani Harpreet Singh’s duty to retake Langah into the Sikh community by considering his request,” Zaffarwal said.
