The SGPC-appointed Akal Takht Sahib acting Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh on Sunday (February 21, 2021) asked the Sikh community to point out India’s denying permission to Sikh jatha going to Pakistan to attend centenary event of Nankana Sahib massacre during the functions to be organized by the organizations across the world for a month.

While delivering his ‘sandesh’ (message) in the name of the community during a function organized at the highest Sikh temporal seat to mark the massacre, he said, “The denial of permission is unforgettable incidence for the Sikhs and will be remembered forever whenever the anniversary of the massacre that took place at the birthplace of Guru Nanak Sahib on February 20, 1921, will be organized”.

The message is in Punjabi originally, and its English translation is given below:

The massacre at the sacred place of Gurdwara Janam Asthan Sri Nankana Sahib (Pakistan) 100 years ago was a huge tragedy for the Sikhs. Approximately 150 to 200 Sikhs attained martyrdom during this bloodshed. Today, we are going to mark the centenary of these great martyrdoms. So, a message in the name of the community is being issued as follows:

  1. Every member of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Sri Amritsar, will organize a minimum of five functions in his respective constituency within a month to mark this massacre.
  2. Every member of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) will organize at least one function in his respective segment within a month.
  3. Managements of Takht Sri Harmandar Jee, Patna Sahib (Bihar), and Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib, Nanded (Maharashtra) will conduct a function each to mark this massacre.
  4. Shiromani Panth Akali Budha Dal, Damdami Taksal, Tarna Dal Harian Welan, Tarna Dal Baba Bakala, Dal Panth Baba Bidhi Chand, all other Nihang organizations, all Kar Sewa organizations, Chief Khalsa Diwan, Khalsa College Charitable Society, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, all Sikh Missionary Colleges, all Sri Sukhmani Sahib Sewa Societies, all Singh Sabhas, Gurdwara Management Committees across the globe, local Gurdwara committees, Sikh Students Federations, and Sikh youth organizations will organize functions as per the resources during this month. If possible, the Amrit Sanchar ceremony should also be organized.

Apart from remembering martyrs of the massacre during these functions, the excess committed by the Government of India against the Sikhs by stopping the jatha from going to Nankana Sahib will also be highlighted. All these functions should be done in appropriate places inside or outside the Gurdwaras. Maximum participation of the devotees must be ensured in these functions.

Note: Send a report of these functions to Akal Takht Sahib.
