SGPC again defies Takht Sahib’s edict, facilitates Akhand Path by Ex-Communicated Langah at Chhote Sahibzade’s Shaheedi Asthan

Sucha Langah at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib

FATEHGARH SAHIB, Punjab—The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) once again defied Akal Takht Sahib’s edict excommunicating former Akali minister Sucha Langah for his immoral act by facilitating Akhand Path (uninterrupted recitation of Guru Granth Sahib) organized by him at sacred Shaheedi Asthan (place where martyrdom was attained) of Chhote Sahibzade (younger sons of 10th Sikh Guru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Jee) at Fatehgarh Sahib.

The Akhand Path was held in the name of Langah at Bhora Sahib where the Chhote Sahibzade (Baba Fateh Singh and Baba Zorawar Singh) were executed by Mughal rulers for not bowing down before them. Besides, Langah was allowed to enter this sacred place, whereas no common devotee is allowed to do so keeping in view of sacredness and sanctity of this place. The granthi appointed by the SGPC also gave him ‘siropa’ (robe of honour).

This happened despite the fact that Langah, who has also been member of the apex gurdwara body, was excommunicated in October 2017 by Akal Takht Sahib after he was found him guilty of misconduct and violation of the Sikh tenets on the basis of his vulgar video that went viral. After being acquitted by the court on technical grounds, he pleaded for pardon before the Takht thrice but was not entertained in view of his offence.

As the news reached him, Giani Harpreet Singh who is SGPC-appointed acting jathedar of Takht Sahib, issued an order to the SGPC to take action against its staffers guilty of this offence. In the evening, the SGPC president Jagir ‘Kaur’ suspended the gurdwara manager Karam Singh and a granthi concerned. Apart from this, she also ordered a probe to identify all the persons involved in the matter.

The Takht Sahib’s edict that excommunicated him, directs the Sikh community to shun all kinds of ties with Langah.

Prior to this, the SGPC staffers organized an Amrit Sanchar samagam in a historic Gurdwara Baba Banda SIngh Bahadar in Gurdaspur district to make an attempt to pardon Langah bypassing the highest Sikh temporal seat. An elected member of the SGPC was also behind Langah’s facilitation. However, the Panj Singh Sahiban (highest Sikh presidium) thwarted the attempt by taking strong against the persons who facilitated Langah.

Actually, Langah is eager to rejoin politics but the Akal Takht Sahib’s edict is the biggest hurdle in his way.

Former Punjab Vidhan Sabha deputy speaker and Shiromani Akali Dal (Democratic) senior leader Bir Davinder Singh termed the fresh facilitation of Langah “desecration” of the holy place where Chhote Sahibzade attained martyrdom. He sought stringent action against those responsible for it.

This incident has occurred few days before the martyrdom day of the Chhote Sahibzade.
