KOLKATA, West Bengal—On October 11, a delegation headed DSGMC president Manjinder Singh Sirsa met the West Bengal’s Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar in relation to the brutal thrashing and humiliation of a Sikh man named Balwinder Singh by the West Bengal cops. They handed over a memorandum to the Governor seeking action against those responsible for this incident.
The Sikh delegation also expressed resentment over West Bengal’s Home Department for justifying this incident. “It is very unfortunate that the followers of a community, which protects entire country, are being humiliated in such a manner,” the Sikh delegation told West Bengal’s Governor.
On this, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar contacted West Bengal’s CM Mamta Banerjee and asked her to shun her obstinate attitude while tendering an apology to the Sikh community. He also asked her take action against the cops responsible for this unfortunate incident.
After this, DSGMC president Manjinder Singh Sirsa met the victim Sikh Balwinder Singh in police station.
It is learned that the Court has extended victim Balwinder Singh’s police remand for further eight days.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal government has said that this incident was being given a religious touch deliberately by a party distrusted by the Bengalis.
The West Bengal government has tried to justify police action in this incident while claiming that a person was nabbed with an unlicensed weapon during this protest held without permission.
“On October 8, the Bharati Janata Yuva Morcha had given a call to surround state secretariat in which 5-7 thousand protesters took part. In this protest, the police cops noticed a protester holding pistol after which they starting chasing him. During this, Balwinder Singh’s turban went off,” claimed a West Bengal police officer.
However, it can be clearly observed in the video of this incident that the victim Sikh was standing alone there and the cops specifically targeted him.
