Punjab Coronavirus Update: Chief Minister and Cabinet Members to Undergo COVID-19 Testing

With 6 more positive coronavirus cases, Punjab at 29 with 1 death ...CHANDIGARH, Punjab— Following the news that the State Cabinet Minister Tripat Singh Bajwa tested positive for COVID-19, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh announced that he and other Cabinet ministers will undergo testing for coronavirus. This is the first case of COVID-19 recorded on a Punjab cabinet minister.

Tripat Singh Bajwa has tested positive for the infection and is undergoing treatment. Bajwa holds the Rural Development and Panchayats portfolio in Punjab.

COVID-19 cases are on the rise in India and while the Government is taking some precautions, they may not be enough. While in India, over 29,000 cases were reported in the past 1 week. In Punjab, there have been 8,799 confirmed cases and 221 deaths. Neighboring state Haryana has had 22,628 confirmed cases and 312 deaths.

Yesterday, the Punjab Government announced stricter measures to curb the spread of coronavirus. This includes limiting weddings and other social gatherings to 30 people maximum and enforcing a mask policy.
