CORONAVIRUS: No Gatherings Over 30 at Weddings; Mandatory Mask Requirement To Be Imposed in Punjab

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—To stop the growing cases of COVID-19 in Punjab, the State Government today issued a new directive. As per a statement issued by the Punjab Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, new rules have been implemented by the Punjab Government to curb the spread of coronavirus in the state. The new rules will enforce wedding gatherings to a maximum of 30 people, while funerals gatherings will be limited to five.

As per a Government-issued correspondence, an FIR will be registered against those who do not follow these rules.

“Strengthening the fight against COVID-19, we have decided to impose section 144 in every district of Punjab and whoever violates the rules will be charged with an FIR,” Punjab Chief Minister said.

The directive further requires that masks must be worn even in closed rooms. The limit of a maximum of 30 people in a gathering doesn’t only apply to weddings but to all social functions.

“To prevent this epidemic from spreading further, we must become responsible citizens and follow all the instructions and rules,” Captain Amarinder Singh.

According to the notification, joint teams of police and civil administration will strictly enforce restrictions on social gatherings as well as weddings and other social functions. Managers of marriage palaces/hotels and other commercial venues violating the rules will have to prove that adequate ventilation arrangements have been made indoors.
