SFJ’s Pannun booked under sedition charges for instigating people against lockdown

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Leveling charges of provoking people via automated calls and pre-recorded voice messages against prevailing curfew, the Punjab police have booked US based Sikhs For Justice’s legal advisor Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. A case under Section 124-A of the IPC, and Sections 10 (a) and 13 (1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 has been registered against Pannun as well as SFJ at the State Special Operations Cell, Mohali.

Varinder Pal Singh, AIG State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Mohali, has said that Pannun has been found involved in advocating secession of Punjab through automated calls as well as pre-recorded audio messages to various residents of Punjab and nearby areas in March and April 2020, with the intention to foment trouble in the state.

He further said that the SFJ was inciting people during ongoing curfew by alleging Centre and the Punjab government of committing atrocities on common masses under the garb of lockdown. “We have found him spreading seditious contents on social media to further frustrate and instigate the already anguished and distressed masses of Punjab,” he added.
