SGPC Announces to Sanitize The City of Amritsar Sahib

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Although its effectiveness has not been proven scientifically, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has announced to sanitize the city of Amritsar Sahib. The announcement was made by under the directions of SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal.

The concept to sanitize public roads and building exteriors started in China, ground zero in the war against coronavirus, and was also used in Spain, Italy, Chile, and Colombia. Britain also mulling over the idea but did not proceed due to concern about safety and effectiveness.

SGPC has nonetheless announced that it will take up this task.

Speaking with Sikh24 about this initiative, Rajinder Singh Mehta, SGPC Senior Vice President, and Dr. Roop Singh, SGPC Chief Secretary, said that the city is being sanitized to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. They said that this task has been started today from the surrounding area of Sri Darbar Sahib. “Although there is a curfew imposed throughout the state, we want to make sure no citizen is effected during this epidemic, this is why we are going to be spraying sanitizer,” Mehta sahib.

The sanitizer has been sprayed on the ways of Sri Darbar Sahib, corridor area and the exterior walls of SGPC guest houses. Similarly, in the coming days, other parts of the city will be sanitized.

Three tractors are being used for this work and streets and wards will be sanitized with the help of long pipes.
