Fake Encounters: HC seeks information about Supreme Court’s directions on such investigations

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Hearing a petition seeking CBI probe into the massacre of the 6733 innocent people carried out by police in Punjab, the Punjab & Haryana High Court bench headed by Chief Justice R.S Jha and Justice Arun Palli has asked the India’s additional solicitor general Satyapal Jain provide information on such investigations ordered by the Supreme Court.

It is noteworthy here that this petition has been moved by Punjab Document and Advocacy Project (PDAP) head Advocate Satnam Singh Bains. The petition demands an inquiry into the killings of 6733 innocent people carried out by the security forces in India.

The High Court’s move came after the PDAP’s lawyer R.S. Bains highlighted Supreme Court’s directions to investigate the record collected by Khalra Mission Organization and the 1528 fake encounters carried out by the security forces in Manipur from 1979 to 2012.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the High Court has deferred next hearing onto April 22.
