Supreme Court denies bail to Sajjan Kumar

NEW DELHI, India—Refusing bail to the 1984 Sikh genocide culprit Sajjan Kumar, the Supreme Court of India today deferred hearing on his bail plea to summer vacations. Notably, Sajjan Kumar has been in Tihar jail since December 31, 2018 after being awarded life imprisonment by the Delhi High Court.

Media reports reveal that Sajjan Kumar’s lawyer Vikas Singh claimed before the SC bench by Chief Justice SA Bobde that his client had lost 13 kgs and needed to be attended by a private doctor. He also handed over a sealed medical report on Kumar’s health to the court.

However, the SC bench said that it would consider this medical report while conducting hearing on Sajjan Kumar’s bail plea in May this year.
