Khalsa Aid’s CEO Ravi Singh faces racial attack on his turban at Vienna International Airport

LONDON, England (UK)—On August 16, the Khalsa Aid’s CEO Ravi Singh reportedly faced racial slur by a woman security staffer deployed at the Vienna International Airport. The incident occurred when Ravi Singh was on way back to his home after helping the Yazidi women who were enslaved by the ISIS in Iraq.

Available information reveals that Ravi Singh was changing flight at the airport when he let security staff swab his turban. Although he walked through the metal detector without setting it off, but still a member of staff then insisted on giving his headdress an additional scan with a handheld device.

When he asked if there was a problem, one of the security workers said: “Yes, we found explosives.”

Speaking to media, Ravi Singh said that he faced immense mental pain at that time. “If he would have made that comment then he would definitely have been thrown in jail,” he said while adding that he doesn’t have any feeling of revenge against that woman as education is a much better way forward than punishment.

“Other staff members were smiling when she made this racial comment on me. I got angry and challenged her, but she refused to apologize,” Ravi Singh informed while asserting that he wants an apology now.

Ravi Singh further informed that he doesn’t want any action against that security woman, but has approached the airport authorities to sit down calmly with her so that she could be apprised of the Sikh faith. “I would not feel good if the person was sacked. You can’t answer hate with hate, it will never work. You will only fuel more hate”, he added.

Responding to Ravi Singh on Twitter, a spokesperson for the Vienna Airport said they are investigating the incident. “We apologize for the incident, this does not match our understanding of customer service,” he said.

  1. One question: Where is the racism in: “Yes, we found explosives.”?
Maybe they did, maybe they had a scanner which indicated traces of explosives, even if it was a unwanted contamination.
I rather have security airport strict than endanger hundreds of people.
Sorry, but from what you write I cannot see any racism in that.
