Dal Khalsa takes on Captain Amarinder Singh for observing Rajiv Gandhi’s birthday

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Calling it a state-sponsored massacre of Sikhs, the pro-freedom Sikh outfit Dal Khalsa has said that the Nov 1984 killings started after Rajiv Gandhi was sworn-in as Prime Minister of India on 31st Oct along with four cabinet colleagues at 6.45 pm.

Accusing Amarinder Singh for rubbing salt on simmering wounds of aggrieved community, the organization took a dig at Punjab government for observing the death anniversary of Harchand Singh Longowal and birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi on August 20 as former was considered a traitor of Sikhs and latter was marked as killer of Sikhs.

Party spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh trashed claims of Punjab CM that Rajiv was away to Bengal and that he had no role in the killings of Sikhs. Quoting former president Pranab Mukherjee from his book “The Turbulent Years 1980-1996”, Kanwar Pal said Rajiv arrived at hospital at 3.15 pm on 31st Oct before the official announcement of the death of Indira Gandhi.

Despite so much of outrage and anger against Sikhs, not a single death has been reported before Rajiv was sworn in as Prime Minister. Moreover, a person of Rajiv Gandhi stature doesn’t need to be physically present to engineer the killings of thousands of Sikhs, he pointed out.

He said it’s pity that Captain Amrinder Singh was defending mass murderers and has always placed his personal loyalty towards Gandhi family over and above the community.

The Dal Khalsa reiterated its long-standing demand for the intervention of United Nations for credible investigation into the November 1984 pogrom and trail of Rajiv Gandhi and Narsima Rao (posthumously).
