Dead body of sacrilege culprit Mohinder Pal Bittu cremated following an assurance of probe

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Following an assurance by the government of an impartial probe, the Sirsa cult disciples cremated the dead body of sacrilege culprit Mohinder Pal Bittu during the evening hours of June 24. Notably, the Sirsa cult disciples had refused to cremate the dead body of Mohinder Pal Bittu while demanding that the sacrilege cases registered against the Sirsa cult disciples should be dropped immediately.

It may be recalled here that Mohinder Pal Bittu was beaten to death with rods by two Sikh youths Maninder Singh and Gursewak Singh inside Nabha jail on June 22.

In June last year, the Punjab police’s Special Investigation Team had held more than 10 Sirsa disciples while investigating the sacrilege incidents occurred in 2015. During the investigation, it had come to fore that the Sirsa cult’s state committee member Mohinder Pal Bittu had orchestrated the plan to steal the holy corpus of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji from Burj Jawahar Singh Wala and then hurt the Sikh sentiments by scattering sacred ‘Angs’ in Bargari.

Bittu, who was wanted in many cases including inciting violence in Haryana’s Panchkula town after the conviction of Sirsa cult head Gurmeet Ram Rahim in 2017, was arrested by a special investigation team from Himachal Pradesh’s Palampur town last year.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh has constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the murder of Mohinder Pal Bittu inside Nabha jail.

“The SIT, to be headed Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Ishwar Singh, will probe all aspects of the fatal attack on Bittu. It will ascertain the conspiracy, if any, in his killing by prison inmates. It will also investigate the role of the prison staff,” said a Punjab government’s official spokesperson.
