Germany indicts Sikh couple for spying on pro-freedom Sikhs and Kashmiris

BERLIN, Germany—A Sikh couple has been indicted in Germany with espionage charges for spying on the pro-freedom Sikhs and Kashmiris living in Germany. The espionage charges, which can carry up to 10 years’ jail in serious cases, were laid on March 28 but only publicized on April 9 by the federal prosecution service in the city of Karlsruhe.

The Federal prosecutors have informed that 50 year old Manmohan Singh was providing information about the movements of Sikhs and Kashmiris to an official of India’s Research & Analysis Wing (RAW) since January 2015 for the sake of money. “Manmohan Singh and his wife Kanwaljit Kaur received a total of 7,200 euros (about $8,100) for the information they provided to their handler stationed in Germany,” they added.
