Attack on Shiv Sena Leader Amit Arora: NIA Files Chargesheet Against Arrested Sikh Youths

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The National Investigation Agency today filed charge sheet against arrested Sikh youths in the Mohali based Special Court in a case pertaining to a murderous attack on Shiv sena leader Amit Arora. Notably, Amit Arora was attacked on February 3, 2016 when he was sitting in his car parked near Jyoti Motors, Basti Jodhewal, on GT Road in Ludhiana.

Names of the eight Sikh youths charge sheeted by the NIA are as follow:

  1. Hardeep Singh alias Shera
  2. Ramandeep Singh alias Bagga
  3. Dharminder Singh alias Gugni
  4. Anil Kumar alias Kala
  5. Jagtar Singh alias Jaggi Johal
  6. Harmeet Singh alias PhD
  7. Gurjinder Singh alias Shastri
  8. Gursharanbir Singh

Although the first five youths namely Hardeep Singh Shera, Ramandeep Singh, Dharminder Singh Gugni, Anil Kumar Kala and Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal are in custodial arrest, but the other three, namely Harmeet Singh, Gurjinder Singh and Gursharanbir Singh are still beyond the reach of the NIA and they are believed to be living in Pakistan, Italy and UK respectively.

It is learnt that the accused have been charged under Sections 120-B, 307 of the IPC; Sections 16, 17, 18, 18A, 18B, 20, 21 and 23 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 as amended and Sections 25 & 27 of the Arms Act, 1959.

The NIA in a formal statement also claimed that the conspiracy had its footprints in several countries, including Pakistan, UK, Australia, France, Italy and UAE.

“As part of the conspiracy, substantial amounts of funds were supplied through Italy, Australia and the UK to the perpetrators of the killings/ attempted killings, viz. Hardeep Singh and Ramandeep Singh. These funds were used by them to purchase weapons for executing the killings and other logistics,” added the agency.
