Behbal Klan Tragedy: Umranangal’s Arrest Insufficient, Arrest Badals Also

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—In the wake of upcoming parliamentary polls, the Congress led Punjab government is making every possible effort to corner Akali leadership by making arrests of the cops responsible for the Behbal Klan and Kotkapura firing incidents. Recently, the Special Investigation Team constituted has arrested the notorious Punjab Police’s IG Paramraj Umranangal who played a key role in opening an unprovoked firing on the peacefully protesting Sikhs at Behbal Klan and Kotkapura.

However, some Congress leaders are not satisfied over the Punjab government’s limited approach to arrest only those involved directly in the firing incidents.

On February 19, the Cooperation Minister of Punjab Sukhjinder Singh Lalli Randhawa said that the arrest of IG Paramraj Umranangal in the Behbal Klan and Kotkapura firing incidents was not enough. He demanded that the Akali leaders Parkash Badal and Sukhbir Badal, who ordered these cops to open fire on the peacefully protesting Sikhs, should also be booked and arrested under murder charges.

It is learnt that the other Majha based Congress legislators are also forcing the Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh to take the probe of these firing incidents to a logical conclusion before the parliamentary polls.

Beside it, the Majha based Congress ministers Navjot Singh Sidhu and Sukhjinder Singh Lalli Randhawa have also demanded the expedite the hearing of drug related cases and punish the Drug kingpin Bikram Majithia.
