New Book on KPS Gill Titled “The Butcher of Punjab” Released at Sri Akal Takht Sahib

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—A new book on the life of the former notorious Punjab DGP KPS Gill named “The Butcher of Punjab” was today released at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Authored by a pro-militancy writer Sarbjit Singh Ghuman, the book contains 352 pages enlisting the names of police officers who massacred innocent Sikh youths in fake encounters.

The book also sheds light on the fateful inside stories of the enforced disappearances of the former Akal Takht Jathedar Shaheed Bhai Gurdev Singh Kaonke and Sikh lawyer Shaheed Sardar Jaswant Singh Khalra.

As per the writer, this is the first book which exposes Gill’s tyrannical image by listing the cases in which “boys of Gill” used extra-judicial methods to create terror and played havoc with the lives of not only militant families but also with the ordinary Sikhs who just had sympathy with the Sikh movement.

Interacting with media, Sarbjit Singh Ghuman termed the development as his humble attempt to bring forth the truth about the working of the police under Gill.

On being questioned about the title of the book, Ghuman said he got the idea after reading the book on the Jalianwala Bagh’s massacre occurred in 1919 with the title “Butcher of Amritsar” referring to General Edward Harry Dyer. He said Gill spilled the blood of young Sikhs throughout Punjab so he named the book as “The Butcher of Punjab”.

Dal Khalsa leaders Satnam Singh and Kanwar Pal Singh said on this occasion that KPS Gill was infamously remembered as a symbol of state-terrorism. They added that KPS Gill enjoyed impunity by the dominant political establishment that emboldened him and his “boys” to carry out illegal operations.

“Despite being considered as the darling of the Indian leaders and the Hindu majority, he stands hated by a vast section of Sikhs for his terror tactics. This book will provide a lesson and mirror to present day cops to evaluate pros and cons of working outside the ambit and the limits of the law of the land” they said.

The first copy of the book was presented to Bibi Paramjit Kaur Khalra wife of Shaheed Jaswant Singh Khalra who was abducted and subsequently eliminated by the then SSP Tarn Taran Ajit “Singh” Sandhu at the behest of the then DGP Gill. The second copy was given to S. Beant Singh, brother of Shaheed General Subegh Singh, who had attained martyrdom during the June-1984 holocaust.
