SGPC Postpones Religious Function to Honor HS Phoolka

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Keeping in view the ongoing martyrdom week, the apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee has postponed the religious function to honor Advocate HS Phoolka and witnesses Bibi Jagdish Kaur, Bibi Nirpreet Kaur and S. Jagsher Singh. Notably, the SGPC had earlier fixed December 26 to honor these Sikh personalities at Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Sharing the development with media, SGPC Secretary S. Diljit Singh Bedi informed that the next date to honor these Sikh personalities, who played an instrumental role in getting Sajjan Kumar punished for his sins, will be announced after conclusion of religious functions pertaining to the martyrdom anniversaries of Chaar Sahibzaade.

It is pertinent to note here that the SGPC has dramatically reversed its attitude towards Advocate HS Phoolka after the conviction of Sajjan Kumar. A few years back, the same SGPC had almost crossed all limits in leveling allegations on HS Phoolka.

The former SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar had accused Phoolka of gaining political mileage from a colossal tragedy besides accusing him of misdirecting SGPC in contesting the cases of genocide victims.
