Manjit Singh, The Backstabber of Sikh Movement, Again Accepts Sukhbir Badal As His Leader

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—SGPC member Manjit Singh, who is renowned among the Sikh community as “Bhai Manjit Singh” since June-1984, was today convinced by the SAD president Sukhbir Badal to work under his leadership after a formal meeting at his home in Amritsar Sahib. Notably, the Sikh community had started expecting so much from Manjit Singh after his participation in the ongoing Bargari agitation by Jathedar Dhian Singh Mand.

Innocent Sikhs had started treating Manjit Singh as an influential Sikh personality because of his family background when he depicted rebellious gesture against SAD president Sukhbir Badal earlier this month. He had even called a press conference at his home to speak against Sukhbir Badal on October 12 but later he was convinced by Majithia.

On October 12, his supporters Harwinder Singh Khalsa and Sarabjit Singh Sohal, who had specially come to Amritsar from Bathinda and Chandigarh respectively on being called by Manjit Singh, sought removal of Sukhbir Badal from SAD’s presidency while interacting with media. However, Manjit Singh evaded the situation by saying that he doesn’t think like  them. In this way, the press reporters had to return empty handed on that day.

Sources have informed that Sukhbir Badal went to the home of Manjit Singh today to convince him after which Manjit Singh stated that he will work for the welfare of his party like earlier. He said that his grievances have been addressed by Sukhbir Badal so now he doesn’t have any complaint to work under his leadership.

Although, it remains unclear what led Manjit Singh to again accept Sukhbir Badal’s leadership but it is being speculated that he has been promised a prominent position in the next SGPC’s executive committee to be elected on November 13. Ruling the SGPC had always been the dream of Manjit Singh who once used to work as an employee in it.

It is also noteworthy here that Manjit Singh had backstabbed the Sikh movement in 1990 by inciting “militants” to murder AISSF’s general secretary Sardar Harminder Singh Sandhu, who was about to impose his revolutionary idea of running a parallel government by constituting Khalsa Panchayats in all villages of Punjab just a day after of his murder i.e. on January 26, 1990.
