SAD (Amritsar) to Mark 34th Martyrdom Anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Addressing a press conference in Jalandhar today, the SAD (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann informed that his party will mark the 34th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh. He added that a religious commemoratory program will be held at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib on October 31 to pay tribute to the great martyr Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh.

Reiterating his demand, Simranjit Singh Mann asked the saffron Indian government to allow Sikhs to build a memorial of Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh on Safdarjang road as the Sikh community regards him as a hero.

It may be recalled here that the Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was shot dead by Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh and Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh on October 31, 1984 in New Delhi to avenge the armed invasion into holiest Sikh shrine Sri Harmandir Sahib.

Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh had attained martyrdom on spot while Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh & Shaheed Bhai Kehar Singh (who was accused of masterminding this assassination) were hanged on January 6, 1989.
