Veteran Akali Leader Ranjit Singh Brahmpura Resigns From All Party Posts

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—In a major setback to the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), the veteran Akali leader Ranjit Singh Brahmpura resigned from all the party positions. Like Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, he also cited weakening health as the reason for resigning from senior vice presidency and core committee membership of the party.

Sharing the development with media today, Brahmpura said that he will not contest any election in the future. However, he clarified that he will support the candidate fielded by the party as a common member.

On being questioned about the impact of his resignation over Shiromani Akali Dal, Brahmpura said in a satirical tone that there will be no negative impact of his resignation on the party as it already has “wise” leaders like Badal, Sukhbir and Majithia.

It is pertinent to note here that the Akali parliamentarian Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, who heads the Khadoor Sahib parliamentary segment in the Indian parliament, was the second senior most leaders in Shiromani Akali Dal after Parkash Badal.
