Bhunder Apologizes for Addressing Badal with “Badshah – Darvesh” Title

CHANDIGARH—Observing sharp resentment among the Sikh community about his mistake of addressing Badal with “Badshah – Darvesh” title, the Akali parliamentarian Balwinder Singh Bhunder has apologized for his mistake. In a visual apology, Bhunder claimed that he committed this mistake in innocence for which he apologizes before Guru Sahib and the Sikh community.

It may be recalled here that in an anti-Congress rally organized by the Shiromani Akali Dal at Abohar on September 9, the parliamentarian Balwinder Singh Bhunder had addressed his party patron as “Badshah – Darvesh”.

A former member of SAD’s working committee named S. Gursewak Singh Harpalpur had even lodged complaint against Bhunder in Sohana police station of Mohali. Seeking registration of an FIR against Bhunder, Harpalpur had said in the complaint that Bhunder hurt Sikh sentiments by terming Badal as “Badshah – Darvesh”.

It is pertinent to note here that Bhai Nand Lal Ji, who was supreme among the 52 poets that made their home in the entourage of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, saw Guru Sahib as both Patshah (from Badshah meaning King Emperor) and Darvesh (Prophet) due to which he addressed Guru Sahib with Badshah – Darvesh title in his poetry.
